When "New Scientist" considers ignorant religion

This may be important because someone actually publishes the New Scientist magazine, and there must be enough subscribers to keep it afloat.
"Traditional spiritual cosmologies support and encourage ignorance by providing purpose and meaning to suffering and discontent."
That's just plain hostile! Needless to say we are given no clue how ignorance is enhanced based on that sentence.
"Science does the opposite. Science makes us feel frightened and alone."
Here, we start to get a measure of his fear, not ours.
Catholics have no probelm with science.
In short, this man needs help.
