Iran would like to use Pope

Despite the condemnation by various cardinals and other Catholic clerics of the cartoons satirising the Prophet Mohammed, Iranian religious leaders are asking for the direct intervention of the Pope.

"Pope Benedict XVI must intervene personally", said Mohammad Mehdi Araghi, the president of the Council for Dialogue among Religions. "

The countries where these offensive cartoons were published all belong to areas influnced by the Catholic church, and so it has to be the Pope who condemns those who offended more than a billion and a half Muslims."
