Detroit folks are not happy
I am incensed by the Cardinal Adam Maida's audacity in spending a huge amount of archdiocesan money for what has obviously turned out to be a less-than-popular attraction in our nation's capital ("Maida reveals $40-million debt," Feb. 4).
This expenditure, coupled with the millions of dollars spent in the cover-up of priestly child predators over the years, could have been put to much better use.

The news that the financially strapped Archdiocese of Detroit has squandered resources on a failing Washington, D.C., monument, while gearing up for local church and school closings that will cause harm to everyday Catholics, is the most vivid example yet of the reckless and uncaring nature of our church leadership.

Metro Detroit Catholics must insist now that within 30 days the Vatican remove this cardinal and his entire leadership team...

Cardinal Maida has made me ashamed to be a Catholic. If he had only helped the poor as God intended him to..

Jesus preached a ministry of living, active service, not one of museums, monuments and generational debt.

After having gutted the educational opportunities of inner-city schoolchildren by closing 18
schools in Detroit this past summer..
With the abuse settlements, closings, and John Paul Cultural Center in
D.C., the churches will only exist in rich suburbs, leaving the rest to tents
and storefronts. Quite a challenge of our own doing.
We have become a missionary Church in USA culture, and now in buildings
also.
