    Pop Mock

    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/ent_radio/story/379834p-322535c.html

In the first episode, Daniel and Judith make a midnight trip to the police station to pick up their daughter Grace (Alison Pill), arrested for marijuana possession. Meanwhile adopted son Adam (Ivan Shaw) is cavorting with the daughter of the staunchly moralistic warden of the parish (Dylan Baker). Eldest son Peter (Christian Campbell) is openly gay, but Daniel doesn't dare tell his father, a revered bishop (James Redhorn). Ellen Burstyn co-stars as Daniel's boss Bishop Congreve, who disapproves of Daniel's provocative Sunday sermons.

And then there's the matter of Daniel's reliance on Vicodin (prescribed for a back injury) to ease the stress. (Quinn said he tried Vicodin for "research." "For the first hour and a half I thought, ooh this is great, everything is wonderful, everything feels hunky-dory." The comedown, he said, was less sublime.)

Vicodin may be the monkey on Daniel's back, but Jesus (Garret Dillahunt) is the shepherd at his elbow, offering advice and support. He also counsels him to lay off the pills.
"It's a very irreverent relationship with quite of a lot of humor," laughed Quinn. "It's almost ... bitchy."

The confluence of story lines - sex, drugs, Messiah-sightings - has angered conservative groups. The American Family Association, which led protests against Ellen DeGeneres' ABC sitcom and Howard Stern, said the show "mocks Christianity."

Founder Don Wildmon said on the AFA Web site that the series "reflects the anti-Christian bias which exists at the highest levels of the network." The group is urging viewers to call NBC stations and E-mail NBC Chairman Bob Wright, and promises to "monitor" the show's sponsors.

You would think the Anglicans would be the main ones who are upset. But I have seen nothing from them. I know they have a conservative wing somewhere.

There was a god-awful TV series on PBS last year about a woman Anglican priest and her daily life in the rectory. No religion to be found in the series. Just humor using incompetent people as comedy.

It can't really be that bad with the Anglicans. It must be humorous mocking. But like the rest of the TV audiance I have no clue.

And any unchurched in Daniel's U.S. audience will have no clue either, which is a shame.
