    Black genocide

The genocide is plain. This message just needs more volume.

From abortion rights leader Kate Michelman speaking at the Commonwealth Club on Jan. 23 and columnist Molly Ivins and Mayor Gavin Newsom appearing together at a $100,000 Planned Parenthood fundraiser Thursday, to a Mass scheduled by anti-abortion advocates Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco, the Bay Area will be buzzing with the abortion debate.

Beneath the radar of these high-profile events will be a small but growing anti-abortion recruiting effort in the Bay Area's predominantly black churches. Some members of Pastors of Oakland, faith leaders who represent more than 25,000 congregants, are expected to attend Thursday's talk by Childress, said the Rev. Frank Jackson, who belongs to the group and plans to be there.

Childress, who founded the Web site www.blackgenocide.org, said he "doesn't believe anyone is gay; they're just confused."
Star Parker, another conservative African American who will speak at Saturday's rally, said she hoped more faith leaders would connect the two issues because "they are both rooted in sexual lawlessness."

    Right.

For one, there is political pressure not to speak out against abortion, which is one of the Democratic Party's core values.
But the more powerful inhibitor for African American pastors may be rooted outside politics. Many are conflicted about how to deal with teenage pregnancies, single-parent families and poverty in their neighborhoods and are looking for solutions.
